Bartow Pell Museum Native American Heritage Day

Native American Heritage Exhibition and Land Deed viewing

Join us as we celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Ramapough-Munsee Lenape Nation. A Land Acknowledgement ceremony will be held at Bartow-Pell’s Treaty Oak Lenape Site followed by an opportunity to view a family genealogy chart connecting the Bartow family within the Ramapough-Munsee Lenape.

Also on display will be a Pell genealogy chart that identifies Anne Pell as a daughter of Wampagè, one of the five Lenape Sachems who signed a treaty with Thomas Pell in 1654. The original Lenape Land Deed of 1737 that was returned to the Ramapo-Munsee Lenape on June 4, 2022 in a historic gesture of reparation from the Sloat family of Sloatsburg, New York will also be on view.

A curated exhibition of Ramapough-Munsee portraits will be on display in the conservatory with this milestone occasion closing with a special performance by the Ramapough-Munsee Spirit of the Mountain Singers and Drummers in the Double Parlors.

Light refreshments will be served.
